These larger than life portraits adorn a building at the end of the fishing pier in Provincetown, MA.
The photographer, Ewa Nogies, intended this display as a tribute to the Portuguese community and Provincetown's fishing heritage. The women are relatives of the area's fishermen and reminded Ewa of the grandmothers we all grew up with.
"It’s especially important in American culture to make older women visible,” Ewa explained, referring to the images of beautiful young models bombarding us on billboards and in ads.

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea. I agree it's very important to showcase the women who have changed our lives forever...some famous and some not...it doesn't matter. They made a huge difference with their sacrifice and love for us...
