Picketing

In my neighborhood I have been finding some pretty white picket fences.  I have passed them daily for many years and never stopped to take a picture -  until now.  They have been looking especially good this year.

I love the cone flowers around this fence.

In years past it was said that the symbol of an ideal middle class life was a cottage with a white picket fence.  In the middle of town there sits such a symbol.

In today's world some see it as a negative symbol of a trapped existence.  Some people just don't want to paint white picket fences and the Tom Sawyer scheme no longer works.

  1. Charming photos - and I love the catchy title. I've never lived behind a picket fence.

  3. These fences and flowers are wonderful! I love them, although i know they're considered idealistic in this day and age. I've yet to see a house here in Oregon with a white picket fence. Guess they're not a Left Coast thing

  6. What a pretty place you live! I've seen some picket fences on the Left Coast in beach communities...... not so many in town.

  8. i still like the little house with the white picket fence. i don't see it as a trapped existence but a choice. it is so much more inviting to visit.

  9. Love the ones with the coneflowers. I have two sections of picket fence in my garden, the paint is peeling and I love it that way.
