Ever since I got my DSLR camera (two years ago), I have been shooting on Automatic. There were dials and settings on my camera but I had no idea what to do with them. Finally I decided to do something about that and I signed up for a class. It was a 3 week course for beginners and would take you through the controls of your camera.
Of course there was homework. We had to experiment with aperture and shutter speed. I tried these out on a little waterfall right in the middle of our town. It was in a dark corner so I did several adjustments to the settings.
Since this week's theme for Photo Art Friday is LIQUID and I had been shooting waterfalls I used an overlay on one of them.
Here's what the original one looked like without editing.
Knowing how to use the controls on my camera has made photography a lot more fun for me. I signed up for a second class which will focus on composition.

OH I am so glad to have popped over to this blog. Now I am able to see you "liquid" shot for Photo Art Friday... and it is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI've been shooting sans auto also - it's a challenge, but so rewarding. You did a fine edit on your photos. I really like the waterfall - lots of wonderful texture!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I still shoot only in "auto"...one of these days, I need to start learning manual photography. It's on my list of things to do! Thank you for sharing your lovely images and processing - they turned out well!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece of photo art you created from a lovely photograph! So pleased you shared your creative work with Photo Art Friday, Stephanie.
ReplyDeleteNeat edit! Good luck in your next class!
ReplyDeleteLovely capture of the flowing water.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your captures!
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with the image. I´m also pleased that you start to learn how to use the camera. :) I rarely use automatic setting. The good thing with digital cameras is that you can take a lot of shots for no cost. Godo luck with experimenting.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you would like to join in my meme NF Inspiring Photography? It is up on mondays.

I really like the first one!
ReplyDeleteI really like both - the second for the texture and the first for the colour. You might like to share your work on Mandarin Orange Monday:)
ReplyDeleteI like them both, too, and I love how that subtle bit of "control" can make such a HUGE difference. I'm getting closer to going off auto, although I still like the digital fiddling part AFTER, which then seems to inform my shooting going forward. I think it would work best with a hands-on live teacher to show me HOW-TO as mine is a very simply [though apparently it does a LOT] point and shoot.
