Random 5

One

The calendar says spring but we are far from it.

Two

We had a sunny day , the temp went all the way up to 40 and I bravely ventured out without my gloves.  Some people were a lot braver and bared more than their hands.

40 degrees does not make it a beach day.

Three

The husband took a few days off this week and was hoping to make it to Cape Cod for some early season golfing.  The day we were to leave the Cape got 10 inches of snow.

Four

It's maple syrup season and we stopped by one of the sugar houses.  It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup.  There's a lot of boiling going on.

Five

There was a time I owned a candy store.  We made our own hand dipped chocolates and there were days I had to make 100 pound of fudge the old-fashioned way  from scratch stirring with a wooden paddle in a giant copper pan.    They say when you are around chocolate all day long you eventually loose your taste for it.  Alas,  it is not true.

  1. Stephanie,

You sound like me when the temp hits 40*. One less layer of winter clothes. We have a fresh layer of snow this morning it's still at it.

I didn't realize it took 40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of maple syrup. Wow.

Your chocolate look tasty! I think it would be fun to work in a bakery.

  2. Love the little bird nest, and I don't think I could live in the north again - I'm so not a snow person! Those chocolates are incredible!

  3. Loved, loved, loved this Random 5 . . . It made me smile at the gal beaching it, yet freezing, of hopes of spring time, and delicious chocolate too. I would love to hear more about your candy shop days!

  4. When the winter has brought temperature of minus 20 and below, plus 40 is a beach day for us here in Canada! I love maple syrup, and we take a trip to the sugar bush every March. Gosh those chocolates look yummy!

  5. Those chocolates look great! And I also disagree about losing a taste for it. Haha. Not going to happen.
Here in South Carolina, there are people who will put on sleeveless shirts and shorts as soon as it is 60 degrees.

  7. Oh goodness the Beach shot is funny, I guess after the horrible winter though it probably seemed pretty warm to them.
Mmmm real Maple Syrup, now that would be yummy.
Those Chocolates look so delicious. - How cool to own a Candy Store, I couldn't do it because I would weigh a ton from sampling everything.

Astounding fact about maple syrup -- no wonder it's so expensive.
