As soon as I saw the prompts for this week's hunt I knew what I wanted to use for the first one.
#1. RELAXING - One of my neighbors believes in relaxing outdoors. He has a new take on outdoor furniture. Love those giant lamps!
#2. INSPIRING PERSON - OK, this is where I was stuck. It was late Saturday afternoon, I was home alone and not a person in sight to inspire me for anything. Sitting on the back porch, looking out on the marsh, there was the answer. I live on the edge of the Rachel Carson Nature Preserve.
Rachel first won fame with her prize winning studies of the ocean and went on to become a leader in the environment and ecology.
#3. WRITTEN WORD - A blank piece of paper (or blog page) is sometimes intimidating. The first word is always the hardest - just as in art, when facing a blank canvas. It is said once you throw some paint on the canvas the rest is easy. Not so easy in writing. You just can't throw words on a page.
#4. MEMORIES - Once my mother got this movie camera back in the late 50's she recorded everything. My grammar school years, high school, college prom are in this pile of film. Unfortunately I can't view them since we no longer have an 8mm projector. I bought one at the flea market but it set the film on fire. I tried a second purchase but no luck.
#5. BEST FRIEND - We had 16 years together and he will always be remembered - especially the time he broke loose, ran away and spent 4 days at a piggery. What a smell.
We're looking forward to a week of real summer weather here. There have been 2 days with no rain and the sun is out. It's time to get out and enjoy it but first stop by and visit Ashley at
Sweet pup. They are totally best friends. My fave this week is the camera/film shot. I love that composition. As for that outdoor furniture...to me, that's just weird, but what do I know? Enjoy the sun.
ReplyDeleteTalk about an eclectic mix! Lovin' it!
ReplyDeleteI would think it odd to have those big lamps on my lawn. haha It's interesting that someone would enjoy that. Good for him to have the nerve to do it.
ReplyDeleteYou can have your old 8mm films put on DVD. I've planned to do it for quite a while, a few at a time, but have not yet.
The doggie is adorable.
Yes, the sun! I'm going to enjoy it again today and I hope you do too!
Great shots - that outdoor furniture is awesome!
ReplyDeleteYour Best Friend made me smile! I visited a pig farm once. UGH! I'm sure you smelled him returning to you from a mile away :)
ReplyDeleteI like your inspiration. How nice to be so close to such a nature preserve! What a story for your dog too. They do tend to bring liveliness into our lives.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! The puppy is so sweet. I miss my pups too!
ReplyDeleteWe owe so much to Rachel Carson. She is very inspirational. Love those big lamps and chairs. What a concept! Maybe you could digitize those old movies. Here's a place I've discovered on line: http://www.fotobridge.com/pricing_2010_video.php
ReplyDelete4 days at a piggery? I'm sorry, but I am laughing just THINKING about what you encountered when you recovered him :)
ReplyDeleteOh how fun...I love Rachel Carson. And I should have saved my dad's old movie projector. Loved your post...
ReplyDeleteGreat post! And you're right about Rachel Carson. So inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dog. I love his eyes!
You certainly captured each category of the meme perfectly. Being a beach person, I loved Rachel Carson's quote...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that lawn furniture is just a riot! He must be a very interesting neighbor.
ReplyDelete4 days at the Piggery...yep, I can imagine the smell but how wonderful to have had so many great years with him.
Loved your shot of the sea and the information about Rachel Carson.
