#1. People spend a lot of money to vacation here at the beach. Those who picked the first two weeks of July for vacation spent most of their time like this:
#2. My 28 year old washing machine was replaced yesterday by a new shiny model. So was my old dryer. The new one has a steam feature. I think I will really like that. However there was a glitch in the installation and now I have to wait for a plumber to come and finish it off before I can actually try it. Nothing is ever easy. Laundry is piling up.
#3. Speaking of old things, I was on my way to the grocery store this week when I spied an old friend sitting by the side of the road.
Here she is - Car #01000 from the Boston Subway system . I remember when she was new and shiny and making her maiden voyage. Now she sits at a museum waiting to be restored to her former glory.
I rode this car to school every day and to work. Usually we were jammed in like a can of sardines. Never got a seat so we had to stand the whole way balancing a load of books. The trip started above the streets of Boson and then went underground. Have you ever heard The Kingston Trio sing charley on the MTA? Charley was trapped on the subway for lack of a nickel fare.
#4. At least with all the rain I haven't had to water the flowers. That's a good thing because I'm not very good at doing that. The garden is starting to look over-soaked though.
#5. Yesterday was my "Half-Birthday". As a kid my January birthday celebration was usually cancelled due to a major snow storm. So Mom would plan a July event to celebrate the half way mark. Yesterday my husband brought me the most delicious éclair from a lovely French bakery to serve as my "Half-Cake".
Now it's time to visit Nancy at Random Five Friday.
The older I get the more the new stuff from earlier in my life gets torn down, replaced, or like my father's old office in Arizona, turned into a museum.
ReplyDeleteI always celebrated my 1/2 birthday and to this day I know exactly when it is....September 10th. Fun post!!
ReplyDelete28 years for a washer must be a record! Those dec-jan birthdays are hard, what a cool idea your Mom had..and more special that you got an eclair from a French bakery from your husband, that is romantic.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Friend!!... My GK's birthdays were all so close to Christmas... I use to have an Unbirthday party in the summer for them...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the photo on your header!!!
ReplyDeleteYeppers! i used to sing and play guitar and that song was on the list of fun sing-a-longs. Like that picture along with your personal story . . . It would be good to hear you tell it . . . inside the restored car - OR - even now, the way it is . . Some museum should hire you to tell . . .
A Very Merry Un-Birthday to You!!! (do you know that song?) Well, i should change the lyric anyway - to Very Merry Half-Birthday -
BUT, you realize I'm just wishing you a Brilliant Day!!!!
-g-
Happy Half Birthday! I always wished I celebrated my half birthday instead of my December birthday. It was always so anti-climactic having a birthday right after Christmas. I love your beach photo...it may not be "beach weather" but it looks so peaceful. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea your mom had!!! Happy Half Birthday!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a half birthday. It could catch on... :)
ReplyDeleteHope the sun comes out for you soon Stephanie. xo
Oh you are so about nothing being easy. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Half Birthday! Eclaires are delicious, but i state the obvious. Ayuh..
That's.. 'so right'. Yeesh!
ReplyDeleteYou can send the rain our way to southern ca... We need it! I too like your header and that car is so cool and an eclair sounds yummy..
ReplyDeleteCool processing on that old RR car and I don't like fog, but it does make for some great atomospheric images. I like the beach shot. An old lobsterman once told me July is the foggiest month. Since then, if I'm able to take any time off in summer....I try to shoot for late July and early August. Jus' sayin'.
ReplyDelete1/2 Birthdays...seem to be more and more popular. I've been reading where a lot of people are doing that for kids born in winter months. Coleen may need to do that because she's a late January baby (19th) and it's always bad weather during her birthday.
ReplyDeleteLoved the shot of the Subway car...at first I thought it was a train car, well I guess in a way it is. Enjoyed hearing about how you use to ride on that very car.
what a great way to celebrate a birthday. you mom sounds like a very creative woman. love it!! happy 1/2 birthday!! do celebrate well!! ( :
ReplyDeleteWe celebrated my daughter's half birthday because she was a Christmas Eve baby and she still wants us to....
ReplyDeleteHappy half birthday.....enjoy...
Oh, my -- I love the old subway car! I'm amazed that's the one you used to ride on. Your photo is preserving a part of your history!
ReplyDeleteHappy 1/2 day!
