Five on Friday

One of the most popular places for walking is a local cemetery.  Not only is it quiet and peaceful but very scenic.  I've never seen a jogger here.  People "stroll" , sometimes alone, some with the whole family.  Everything just seems slower and quieter.  Even voices seem lower.

Many weddings take place at this cemetery, especially when everything is in full bloom.

At this time of year there is not much color, just a few leaves left on the ground.  The groundskeepers are very diligent in the upkeep of the property.

For Five on Friday I have chosen  five spots in this cemetery starting with it's prime waterfront location.

Many family plots are marked with ornate metal fences.

Bridges cross over the brook that flows through the cemetery.

Graves date back to the early 1800's.  Here lies Annie.  That's all we know about her -  just Annie.

This spot has been used a  lot this year for senior class pictures.  Almost every time I came by here last month someone was doing a shoot.  the structure reminds me of something from  ancient Greece or Rome.  Maybe this gives the impression of wise scholars?

For more fives visit Five on Friday.  Do you have five things to share next week?

  2. I love old cemeteries...you should read my blogpost about the oldest active cemetery where I live...was even used for a movie out in the theaters now. If you love cemeteries...you should catch the Cemetery Special by PBS...it's on Netflix right now.

  3. Your photos truly are as peaceful as a walk through a cemetery! I love walking through cemeteries, especially if we're visiting a town with a lot of history. They're a peaceful respite from the tourist beat and a wonderful place for photo ops.

  7. Cemeteries are my favorite, too. This one reminds me of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, mostly because it's on a river. Gorgeous!

  8. I can see why it's such a popular place to walk. It is so beautiful. We don't have cemeteries like that here in Las Vegas. At least none that I know of. You have captured some beautiful photos.
